N'GONI- Handmade by Arouna

from 600.00

Arouna builds the kamale ngoni, also known as the “West African Harp,” from beginning to its end. The instrument’s foundation lies in a strong neck, typically made from mohagany.  The base of the n'goni is made from a calabash- a strong West African gourd. Goat skin is shaved, soaked in water, stretched and attached to the calabash. Bamboo is then cut, dried, filed, and used to attach the skin to the neck of the instrument. Different weights of fishing line are strung through metal keys to complete the instrument.

These instruments are hand made according to the traditional West African method.

Please be aware that due to the high level of quality, no two instruments are alike. If you have special design considerations please include these in the comments section of your order. We will contact you with any questions.
